Production Begins

The Devil’s Possession goes to conference today – cover conference, that is – in NY. How exciting. Months to go before I see any sort of cover, but still, it’s thrilling to know TDP is being¬† discussed.

My editor’s assistant asked, if any,¬†what other books were similar to A) my writing style or B) my subject matter. I don’t think I’ve been that stumped since college finals, and even then, I’d had time to study. You’d think I’d never read another book in my life! So what should have been a simple question had me calling and emailing others to find the answer to. And here’s what I came up with:

I do not write like anyone I’ve ever read. At first, this disconcerted me. Then, I realized how great that revelation is, because I don’t want to be or sound like anyone else. I want readers to know my writer’s voice and not confuse it with anyone else’s. There are a couple of authors who write elements of what I write – the dark alpha males of Kinley MacGregor, the settings of Julie Garwood. But wow! I had such a difficult time with that question.

So anyway, I anticipate major nose itching while TDP is being discussed in conference today. I’d love to be a fly on the wall….
